Funding Notes
  • A-B Tech Foundation, Candler, N.C., $75,000 from the Lavender Fund of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina for grants to student-run businesses in the Small Business Center/Incubator's Student Business Incubator at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and a Young Entrepreneurs' Summer camp at the incubator.
  • Montgomery College, Germantown, Md., $248,610 from the Maryland Board of Public Works for renovations to a building to house the Germantown Life Sciences Incubator. The incubator will be operated by Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, which has incubation programs in Rockville, Silver Spring, and Wheaton.
  • Ohio University Innovation Center, Athens, Ohio, $50,000 from the state of Ohio's Thomas Edison Program for building renovations, purchase of research equipment and client recruitment.
  • San Juan College Enterprise Center, Farmington, N.M., $25,000 from the New Mexico Economic Development Department for incubator operations.
  • University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio, $2 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for the construction of a 40,000-square-foot incubation facility. The building will be adjacent to the university's existing Clean and Alternative Energy Incubation Center.
  • Shoals Entrepreneurial Center, Florence, Ala., $40,000 from the city of Florence and $5,000 from the city of Muscle Shoals for incubator operations.
