Senior Technical Services & QA Specialist

Reports to the Associate Director
of Food Technology at the FIC in Bridgeton, NJ.
Develops, implements, and maintains sanitation and
quality assurance programs that include training
in compliance with FDA and USDA regulations for
the manufacturing of food products. Provides personalized
and customized technical support to center clients
in the areas of product and process development,
ingredient and finished products specifications
support, quality assurance, food safety, regulations,
and compliance. Supports the individual operational
needs of resident and nonresident clients of the
Food Innovation Center. Interfaces with clients
on a daily basis and provides appropriate food safety
training to maintain facility policies. Develops
protocols and manages day-to-day operations related
to quality assurance, sanitation activities, microbiological
and analytical testing, and technical support. Identifies,
implements, and/or evaluates advanced sanitation
and quality assurance strategies for food manufacturing,
including food security. The Rutgers Food Innovation
Center (FIC) is a unique business incubation and
economic development accelerator program that provides
business and technology expertise to small and mid-sized
food and agribusinesses in New Jersey, and utilizes
its outreach capacity to reach the food industry
throughout the nation. Business and technology expertise
has been provided to over 700 clients to date, including
farmers and cooperatives, startup food companies,
existing small and mid-sized food establishments,
and retail and foodservice markets that seek to
purchase locally supplied NJ products.
Requires a bachelor's degree in food science, chemistry,
biological sciences, or similarly related field.
Requires an understanding of food safety principles
including Good Manufacturing Processes, Sanitation
Standard Operating Procedures, and Hazard Analysis
and Critical Control Point procedures. Experience
with quality assurance, technical services, and
product development in the food industry is desired.
Requires demonstrated ability to develop strategies
and manage multiple projects, excellent communication
skills, comfort in a training role, capability to
correct individuals in a positive way, ability to
work in a team environment, and the ability to work
in confidence with the individual needs of clients.
Also requires computer literacy in Excel and Word,
and ability to assess data and generate technical
reports as required.

Innovation Laboratory is seeking an individual to
fill the position of Director. The position will
be available September 1, 2008. The Innovation Lab
is a university-based business incubator targeting
high technology, information technology, knowledge
management and biotechnology-related new and early
state businesses. The Director reports to the Vice
Provost for Research and Sponsored Programs. The
successful candidate must have the ability to effectively
communicate the resources and mission of the Innovation
Laboratory to the community and engage in effective
recruitment of new companies to the Innovation Laboratory
within the established criteria for admission. The
Director provides leadership in mentoring client
companies and works effectively with the Innovation
Laboratory Advisory Board. A bachelor’s degree
in scientific, high technology, information technology,
biomedical or engineering discipline is required.
A MBA is preferred. Experience working in the private
sector and managing projects for a high technology,
information technology, biomedical technology or
engineering company is required. A demonstrable
record of a high degree of personal integrity and
excellent communication skills is required. General
knowledge of the mission and operation of a public
research university is preferred.
